How tipping actually works.

I take almost nothing too seriously, and that's not an accident.

Life's handed me the full spread: good years, rough ones, and a stretch of serious illness that rearranged how I think about pretty much everything. You come out the far side of something like that with a simple conclusion.

The days are the point.

So I mess about. I'll wind you up, I'll talk absolute nonsense for three hours, I'll bin it into turn one and blame the kerb. But when something actually matters, I can flip to razor serious in a heartbeat, never afraid to go really deep into a hobby or a passion and bring others along for the ride. Knowing which one the moment needs is the whole trick.

“Spreading joy” sounds corny written down. I don't care. Everyone's carrying something, and I sleep happy knowing I might have put a smile on a face or helped someone just a little bit with their day, whether that's by making something easier to learn or just a good laugh!

I've worked as an electrician, a technician, and I've studied a few things over the years, psychotherapy among them. All of it useful. What I've landed on is making stuff and pulling people together. Turning a shared obsession with motorsport into real friendships through the community, and facilitating new ones between others via the channel, is a beautiful byproduct. And although it seems like light-hearted fun, this is the most meaningful work I've ever done. The tough moments taught me that doing something with meaning in it is the most valuable thing I have.

Simracing, of all things, is how I get to do it.

Right now myself and my fiancée are living the shed life, same as a lot of people in Ireland due to housing prices. The rig takes up one of the four quarters of the cabin. The dream, the actual, unglamorous, keeps-me-going one, is to one day have a home of our own.

Every tip and gratuity moves that a little closer. It also keeps this whole thing running: the gear, the hours, the creating, me being here doing it.
