GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 5080 Master 16G

16GB of GDDR7. Enough headroom for a 5K2K editing screen and for racing at high refresh without thinking about settings.

Mine is the black Master. Amazon US only lists the Master ICE, which is the same card in white.

Processor

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D

Sixteen cores with the 3D V-Cache. Sims love the cache, editing loves the cores, so one chip covers both jobs.

Memory

Corsair Vengeance DDR5 64GB (2x32GB) 6000MHz

64GB so the editor, OBS and a sim can all be open at once. No RGB, on purpose.

Boot drive

Samsung 990 PRO 2TB NVMe M.2

Windows, the sims and whatever I'm editing this week live here.

Second drive

Samsung 870 EVO 4TB SATA SSD

4TB of SATA storage for everything that doesn't need NVMe speed. Cheap per terabyte and silent.

CPU cooler

ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 420

A 420mm AIO on a 9950X3D is overkill on paper. In practice it's quiet, and quiet matters when the mic is a foot away.

Power supply

Corsair RM1200e (2023) 1200W ATX 3.1

1200W, ATX 3.1, with the native 12V-2x6 cable for the 5080. Fully modular, which is how the cable section further down was possible.

Motherboard

MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk WiFi

X870E on AM5, with enough M.2 slots that I won't need to think about it for a while.

The desk monitor

LG UltraFine evo 40 (40U990A-W)

40 inches, 5K2K, curved. Makes the most sense for me at the desk: one screen, everything on it, nothing pulling my eye sideways.

The rig screens

32 inch curved 1440p 180Hz

1440p at 180Hz on a curve. Three of these on the rig, in a triple.

Mine is the Gigabyte GS32QCA, which Amazon US doesn't list. This links to the LG 32GS60QC-B, the same size, resolution and refresh rate.

Fifteen keys for the scene changes and macros I hit most. Sits right beside the keyboard.

The big one

Thirty-two keys. Once you run out of buttons on the MK.2, this is where the rest of them go.

The one with dials

Audio levels on physical knobs instead of alt-tabbing into a mixer mid-stream. The touch strip shows what each dial is doing.

The mic. It needs a lot of clean gain, which is why the RODECaster is sitting next to it.

Uninterruptible power for the NAS, so a power cut doesn't catch it mid-write.

Switch

TP-Link TL-SX105 5-port 10G switch

Five 10G ports, no fan, no setup. The PC and the NAS talk over this, so moving footage isn't a coffee break.

Keyboard

Low profile, quiet, and in graphite so it disappears into the desk on camera.

Mouse

Same story. Dark, near-silent clicks, and the scroll wheel that spins forever through a timeline.

Sleeving

Clips

The strip everything at the desk plugs into. Surge protection for the lot, and the plug rotates so it fits behind furniture.
